The North American Numbering Plan Administration (NANPA) (country code +1) announces that on 2 October 2004 American Samoa will be integrated into the North American Numbering Plan (NANP) with NPA (Numbering Plan Area) 684 within the country code +1; the subscriber numbers will remain the same, i.e. seven digits. As from that date, international routing to American Samoa will be +1 684 NXX XXXX.

Introduction of the NPA 684 will begin with a period of permissive dialling which will end on 2 April 2005. During the permissive dialling period, either the old or new dialling formats will be acceptable in a dialled number terminating in American Samoa. At the end of the permissive dialling period, all calls dialled with the incorrect country code will be routed to a recorded message instructing callers to dial the correct country and area codes.

The test number is +1 684 633 0001. A recorded announcement will indicate that the test call has been successfully completed.
